Day 1 in Taiwan

Ni Hao! ^_^

I arrived at TPE early this moring, 5/19/2011, local time 6am. I had so much luggage, and without my family helping me out lugging 3 bags, laptop bag, purse, & jacket was annoying. But all 5 of us that arrived today got safely to the Shuttle bus, and arrived at the dorms at 8am. The problem was that check in wasn't until 3pm. Therefore, we set out to have an adventurous day.

How we stumbled upon Clinton.

Vincent, Jorge, Howie, Maple, and I went to the local park to meander about. On the directory there was something called a Foot Massage Path, and we went in search of it. =] But, it turned out to be a path with medium smooth stones cemented in, and I did not like that massage at all. It hurt. While walking along another path we pass a foreignor sitting on a bench reading but upon taking a second look we realized he had a familiar face and figured out he was indeed an SLI student. Clinton was surprised to see us as well, and he joined our posse and ventured further into the park where we heard lots of strange noises in the trees. We looked all around, but saw no birds. Clinton informed us that they had to be bugs, Cicadas, which freaked out Maple and annoyed George. ^_^ hehe Nevertheless, we went on. Throughout the park were interesting looking trees, older people doing TaiChi. I wanted to join, but it looked like I would impose on their group and did not want to disrespect anyone. Exploring further, we found this "mini" farmer's market and I think I ate a LoChi Berry or something and it was... interesting but not my cup of tea. Oh, Clinton bought a peach too. (<--This peach makes it's debut later in this story too, so don't forget about it) Continuing deep in the park there is a Perluge or something, and it turned out to be some kind of stone art arch path thing. It reminded me of walking through some dinosaur skeleton, but definitely not humongous or anything. We also saw some sculpted man with his arm stretch out and his son close by, and the proportions were strange, but that's art for you. Oh, it had a Nike logo on it, so I supposed someone thought it was hilarious to do that. I just felt bad that someone made a joke out of this large statue. No respect. Anywho, we continue to walk around when we come upon PARROTS. Yes, gorgeous colorful South American parrots. A family of three had two young parrots out for a visit in the park. One on the shoulder of a young asian boy with a bright orange shirt, and the other perched in the short tree above him. They were so amazing. Clinton was the first of us to handle the parrot because he had his peach to tempt the parrot onto climbing onto his shoulder. Later we all joined in on petting the birds and taking lots of cool pictures.

All the pictures I have so far!

This is a link to my picasa web album of the day. I have worked out many of the inconveniences I had before & can now upload photos more frequently. Check them out! =D

Veronica

Therefore, if I figure out how to use video editor software, upload videos to youtube, and post them to this blog, then video messages will be available for you. Furthermore, I may also type some of my posts both in English and Simplified Mandarin Chinese. I'm really excited about doing this blog, and I have so much planned for my trip. Let's hope I have some free time to update you. hehe ^_^
